Spring is just around the corner and it is time to start thinking about what type of flowers you want to plant. There are so many options to choose from and it can sometimes be overwhelming. We have created a list of some beautiful spring flowers that are easy to plant and manage while adding beauty to your home.


These plants are low maintenance and with some sun and well-drained soil these flowers produce lush foliage all spring and summer. Peonies come in red, pink, yellow and white and mix well with roses and irises. Peonies are usually sold as bare-root tubers with three to five eyes.


This plants subtle colors, tall flower scapes and wide, coarse leaves fill a void in the landscape few other plants can do. They do best in shady, wooded areas and work well as specimen or edging plants.

Russian sage:

This plants wispy strands of lavender or blue flowers compliment most flowers providing an elegant look to flower beds. The fragrant leaves are rectangle and deeply cut along the edges. Foot-long panicles of flowers bloom for several weeks. This plant grows best under full sun, but can tolerate light shade. Taller plants tend to flop, so plant close to avoid staking.


The Iris is named after the Greek goddess who rode rainbows. As you can guess Irises come in a variety of colors: pink, orange, yellow, blue, purple, white and multicolored. Irises are easy to grow and attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Irises require half a day of sun and well-drained soil.


Coneflowers come in red, pink, purple and white and resemble a daisy but with raised centers. These flowers are also low maintenance, and good for cut flowers. Plant the seeds in humus-rich, well-drained soil about 1 to 3 feet apart.
